Border zones are the areas defined in the border agreements with neighbouring countries. They were abolished for EU/EFTA cross-border commuters, who can live anywhere in the EU/EFTA and work anywhere in Switzerland. They still apply to third-country commuters, whose G permit is valid only in the border zone of the canton that issued it.
