Self-employed: living in Switzerland

EU/EFTA nationals

The AFMP gives EU/EFTA nationals the right to settle in Switzerland as self-employed. The canton asks for proof of a genuine self-employed activity (commercial register entry, business plan, accounts, contracts or clients). The EU/EFTA B permit is then issued for five years. A cross-border commuter can also be self-employed if the business is based in Switzerland.

Third-country nationals

Under the Act, a third-country national can be admitted for self-employment if it serves the country's economic interests and the necessary financial and operating conditions are met, with a sufficient, independent source of income. Permits remain subject to quotas and SEM approval.
